PETER ELKIND

“Elkind's style is journalism at its best: well-reported but pared down, and full of colorful scenes." — Newsweek.com

Peter Elkind is a senior reporter at ProPublica, following up a twenty-year tenure at Fortune magazine, and editorships at Texas Monthly and the Dallas Observer. With his fellow Fortune reporter, Bethany McLean, Elkind co-wrote the national bestseller THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM: THE AMAZING RISE AND SCANDALOUS FALL OF ENRON. The 2005 documentary based on the book was directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney and nominated for an Academy Award.

Elkind is also the author of THE DEATH SHIFT: THE TRUE STORY OF NURSE GENENE JONES AND THE TEXAS BABY MURDERS, as well as CLIENT 9: THE RISE AND FALL OF ELIOT SPITZER. The Eliot Spitzer saga is also the topic of a documentary by Gibney. Elkind collaborated a third time with Gibney on THE MAN IN THE MACHINE, a documentary feature film on Steve Jobs.

Elkind has written for The New York Times Magazine, newyorker.com, and The Washington Post, and has been a guest on numerous radio and television programs, including The Today Show, Nightline, and CNN Newsnight.

Elkind graduated from Princeton University in 1980. He lives with his family in Fort Worth, Texas.
